Located within the evolving St Philip’s Marsh area of Bristol, 38 Albert Road is a purpose-built student accommodation project that sets the tone for broader urban renewal. Leveraging our expertise and access to the UK’s state-of-the-art wind tunnel testing facilities, we supported the development team in navigating complex wind behaviour across multiple design iterations.
Comprehensive Wind Tunnel Testing Across Five Configurations
The planning phase explored five possible massing and façade configurations. Windtech used physical wind tunnel testing combined with advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to assess the pedestrian wind environment for each scenario. This approach enabled precise measurement of wind velocities at critical entrances, public realm areas, and communal outdoor spaces.
Our dual-modelling approach allowed the design team to test refinements efficiently and accurately, minimising delays and enhancing design responsiveness.
