Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

Computational Fluid Dynamics Modeling

Windtech’s capabilities and experience offer a focused range of wind engineering services undertaken through wind tunnel testing and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for buildings. Our aim is to provide an exceptional level of service by solving even the most challenging problems with elegant solutions that ensure structures and their environment are safe, comfortable, and efficient.

Using the latest technology and methodologies in wind engineering, much of which has been developed in-house, Windtech’s work is primarily undertaken on tall and complex structures during the design phase, but we also often assist in undertaking remedial studies as well as peer reviews. Windtech’s studies in the wind tunnel include the assessment of wind-induced structural loads, façade cladding pressures, bridge aerodynamics, and pedestrian wind comfort and safety.

Since 1991, Windtech’s wind engineering consultants have provided advanced wind engineering studies utilising wind tunnel testing and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), offering an additional range of complementary analysis and visualisation techniques. Our CFD wind analysis is most frequently used for studies to assess pedestrian wind comfort and thermal comfort, including using the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI). Windtech also regularly uses CFD to assess air quality, the presence of dangerous or odorous gases, and pollution re-entrainment analysis. Recent projects have used CFD in assessing wind-driven rain, snow, and sand modelling, and there are almost endless applications for which CFD can be applied.
