Niccolo Hotel Changsha, Hunan

Niccolo Hotel Changshahas been in operation since 2018 and is located at the top floors of Changha IFC, a 452m tall tower comprised of hotel, corporate offices, residences and luxury retail.

The tower experienced significant stack effects during the winter season due to its supertall nature and the temperature difference between internal and external conditions. Windtech Consultants has worked closely with Wharf and the hotel operator to successfully improve the stack effects within the tower through a detailed numerical modelling and simulation study.

A similar study to that which was undertaken for this project is now regularly undertaken as part of building design. The study uses computational fluid dynamics to investigatethermal stack effect early enough in the project that mitigation methods can be incorporated into the design with minimal impact to the project.
